Taken in Duluth just before sunset, this photo captures the dreamy and light feel of Duluth in the summer. On the left third of the photo sits a building holding a light, which is situated in the top front. This building is heavily set on one of two breakwaters in front of the aerial bridge. Stretching behind it is a walk that people regularly walk out on and fish from. Near the far left side of the photo, standing on the breakwater, is a person fishing, emphasizing the scale of this scene. He is but a dot on the breaker. Covering the entire scene is a blanket of clouds that sits behind the breakwater. While they only take up a portion of the photo, it’s clear how large they are. Just below the clouds are two ducks, sitting and wading in the water. Their lack of motion adds to the light and peaceful feel of the photo. What also adds to this photo is the combination of colors. A very light blue covers the scene, with a faded yellow in the direction of the setting sun. With the sun hitting the scturing on the left, there is an illumination and saturation brought to life within the scene. The structure stands warm on the waterbreaker and brings the whole story to a close.

STORY

This photo represents one of the few warm and dreamy days that I had in Duluth during my project “Identity”. In reality, though, I feel like the middle of May isn’t the best time to want warm weather, specifically in Duluth.

That being said, those sensations I had, the sun tingling my skin, the cool wind brushing the top of my head, and the scent of fresh water are all elements that I want in this photo.

If you have ever been in Duluth during this time, you’ll know the feeling that I am talking about, but there is something you might not know.

I want this photo to be a source of nostalgia for you. As it hangs on your wall, I want a cool breeze of fresh water to invade your chaos, bringing that sense of calm we always experience with nostalgia.

A very short story, meant for a very understanding person. Thank you for reading, thank you for being here with me.

Border & Presentation Details

All prints are produced edge-to-edge, with no white border, allowing the image to fully occupy the space for a clean, modern presentation.

The only exception is Hahnemühle Photo Rag Ultra Smooth, which includes a 0.79" (20 mm) white border as part of its fine art presentation, enhancing its gallery-style aesthetic.

If you prefer a white border on other materials, this can be achieved through custom framing using a mat board. This involves selecting a slightly larger frame and adding a mat, which surrounds the image and creates that classic, centered border effect.
