Short Story: DUAL QUEST
Ephrem RichmondShare
Two subjects, two challenges, two angels, two colors, two opposites, two beings, and yet one united goal: find the answer.
As I question this piece more and more, I cannot help but love it. It satisfies me to observe all of the unique ways that this photograph simply works. Not only that, but it challenges me.
So often, I meditate on the fact that many of us have become lazy and unobservant, slow and forgetful, gradually losing our desire and ability to learn and understand. In our world of technology, there are too many things that we let answer the questions about our problems. YouTube, ChatGPT, and Google, all of these platforms put the cake in our hands when submitting of a jumbled sentence. We have become prone to letting our challenges go unchallenged, and instead, we leave it up to technology to figure it out.
While this certainly isn't always a bad thing, I do believe that we are naturally made to challenge life! We were created not only to ask "What's this?" but to build up the endurance to find the key to our question. Think about Adam and Eve, who I am sure you've heard of. They were put into a beautiful garden, and they were given instructions to follow, but, in the end, they chose to question and poke at the legitimacy of our God's words. It was not wrong for them to be curious or to ask questions. God loves your questions, and He will always answer you. Where they went wrong was when they made the incorrect and destructive choice to trust their opinions over God's. This led them down a path of death and pain, which has now been cured and cleansed thanks to Jesus, but they had no understanding of the suffering they were going to have to endure.
I know this example may be discouraging, and you may now want to never challenge anything again, but that's not my point. My point is, it's normal for us to question things. I would go as far as to say that it's healthy to question things. It builds trust, it builds knowledge, it builds experience! I think we need to be challenged sometimes, being careful to avoid incorrect answers, of course.
So, in conclusion, our lives can line up with this photograph, and we can go on our own quest for answers.
